Description:

The Mitchell/Moore Community Center and Park is named in honor of Tony Mitchell and Cheatham Moore, two leaders in the African-American community. Tony Mitchell, a civic activist and humanitarian, helped the less fortunate educate their children and his personal assistance helped many obtain private business loans. Cheatham Moore, a civic activist, was the first African-American appointed to the City’s Housing Authority. He also organized a voter registration drive establishing the first precinct in the Northwest community. Both leaders petitioned the City for recreational facilities, resulting in the creation of Westside Park, which today is known as Mitchell/Moore Park and Community Center.

A completely wireless, cloud-based emergency alert and lighting warning system that is constantly operational and integrated with the most reliable lightning detection network to provide 24 hour weather risk monitoring and warning. Park patrons will have direct access to the system online utilizing either the City’s official parks page and quick link QR codes posted throughout the parks.

Offerings: Approximately 10,000 square feet the Mitchell/Moore Community Center is located in the middle of the 16.1 acre Mitchell/Moore Park adjacent to Blanche Ely High School. The Center has a large gymnasium, arts and crafts room and meeting rooms, together with a fully functional kitchen. The park has five lighted basketball courts, rentable football/soccer field, rentable pavilion sehlter, playground area, lighted softball/baseball fields, four lighted tennis courts and volleyball courts. Pavilion shelters are by permit use only.
