COVID-19 Information

COVID-19 Information for Parks and Recreation:

The following City emergency regulations are in effect as of 7:00 a.m. Monday morning, March 23rd in the City of Pompano Beach and will remain in effect until further notice. The measures have been implemented for the protection of our residents, visitors, businesses and employees to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the healthcare system is not overwhelmed. The City will continue to assess the situation and make changes as necessary.


OPEN –Parks will remain open from sunrise to sunset. Encourage parks to be used in short-use intervals for one to two hours for passive park enjoyment – walking, hiking, biking, jogging, nature, personal boat launching, golf and tennis.

Playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment are now open

Park pavilions are available for rent up to 10 people. The beach pavilions remain closed.

  • Visitors are not allowed to enter a park if they have COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Physical distancing of six feet minimum required.
  • All visitors must have face coverings and use them when they come within 6 feet of another person
  • Guests must follow CDC guidelines on personal hygiene.
  • Social gathering of groups of 9 and less will be permitted. A minimum of 50 ft. shall be maintained between all groups.
  • Bathrooms will reopen and will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by the Public Works Department on a daily basis.
  • Basketball courts play up to 10 people
  • Tennis Center will reopen for singles or doubles play only between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to sunset.
  • The Golf Course will reopen during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to sunset.
  • The Pier will be open between the hours of 7a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • The Dog Park will open from sunrise to sunset.
  • Alsdorf Boat Ramp will reopen during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Walking and nature paths will be one way (directional). Guests must have face coverings and use them when coming within 6 ft. of another person.
  • Vehicle parking capacity in parks will be regulated, as necessary, to adhere to CDC social distancing guidelines.
  • BSO officers, Park Rangers and Park Monitors will be utilized to assist with surveillance of all parks.
  • All law enforcement personnel will be notified that we are reopening and for what purposes so we can request patrols from zone officers.
  • Park Rangers and Park Monitors will patrol parks to promote visibility and check for compliance with approved protocol and unified messaging and enforcement.
  • Unified staff message to the public to help us keep parks open and safe, and to maintain CDC guidelines.
  • If patrons do not comply with unpermitted uses then Park Monitors will contact the Park Rangers to ensure compliance. If for some reason there is still no compliance then BSO will be notified and directed to the scene for compliance.

Aquatics Center

  • The Pompano Beach Aquatic Center will be opening June 17th. New hours of operations, policies, and procedures will be in place to facilitate social distancing requirements & increased facility sanitation. Reservations will be required for swim session times. Please see this document for more information. Houston Sworn Aquatic Center will remain CLOSED.

The following parks will remain closed

  • Mitchell/Moore Park (901 NW 10 Street Pompano Beach) due to COVID-19 Walk Up Test Site
  • Exchange Club Park
  • Centennial Park will remain closed

The following amenities/activities remain closed.

  • All Organized athletic leagues need to be pre-approved by the Parks Dept.

  • Social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people are not allowed.
  • Grills and grilling.
  • Rental halls.
  • Houston Sworn Aquatic Center
  • Pavilions
  • Beach Weddings over 10 people

Golf Course

  • The Pines golf course is open.
  • The Palms golf course is open. Walking only.
  • One golfer per cart, however, Individuals residing at the same address my ride two per cart.
  • No walking on the Pines course.
  • Tee times start at 7:00 a.m. Walk on players will be given the first available tee time.
  • Credit Card only. No cash will be accepted.
  • The golf course will close at sunset.
  • The golf carts will be cleaned and disinfected after each round.
  • Social distancing will be enforced while checking in.
  • No rakes, no ball washers, no sand buckets on golf carts.
  • Do not remove flagsticks.
  • At the conclusion of your round, it will be the players responsibility to remove all trash from your cart.
  • All practice areas are open.

Tennis Center

  • Single and doubles play
  • Exact cash or credit cards only
  • Social distancing will be enforced while checking in.
  • Signs on office door requiring face masks upon entry
  • 7:00 a.m. - sunset

Dog Park

  • Entry Signage:
    • You or your dog feeling sick? DO NOT enter the dog park.
    • Been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 symptoms? DO NOT enter the park
    • Keep 6 feet distance with others (avoid handshakes and contact).
    • All visitors must have face coverings to wear with them and use them when they come within 6 feet of another person.
    • Do not touch other dogs.
    • All permanent seating is closed.
    • Vacate the premises when finished.
    • Please bring your own water. No water fountains will be available.
  • Sunrise to sunset.
  • Only 25 people will be allowed in each section of the dog park at any given time.
  • Dog Park will remain closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.
  • Memberships will be extended once reopening date is confirmed.
  • Water fountains will be covered.
  • Park monitor stationed there for first month of reopening to enforce guidelines and clean high-contact areas.
  • All permanent seating will remain closed.

Pier

  • The Pier will open to the public from 7a.m.- 10pm
  • All visitors must have face coverings to wear with them and use them when they come within 6 feet of another person.
  • Sightseeing is currently free of charge. Fishing is $6 per person
  • No sitting will be allowed.
  • Patrons must adhere to the directional signage located throughout the pier.
  • No outside coolers, food, or drinks.
  • The Pier will be pressure cleaned prior to opening and on a daily basis.
  • Maximum number of patrons allowed on the pier will be limited to 200 at any given time.
  • Bait Shop Vendor will monitor attendance and ensure social distancing guidelines are being followed at all times.

Parks and Recreation FAQ

  • Q: Will there be a football and cheer season?

    A: Football/cheer season will continue as planned when the pandemic ends. We will start immediately after.
  • Q: Will the center facilities be sterilized before they open?

    A: Yes, We are taking every precaution to sterilize all amenities before we resume all activities.
  • Q: Are Public Event Applications being processed?

    A: Yes with restrictions. Outdoor events only with attendance maximum of 100 people. Please email Chelsea.anderson@copbfl.com
  • Q: How are you enforcing social distancing in the Parks?

    A: In every effort to keep the parks open, The City has deployed its staff to monitor the Parks. The "friendly monitors" will remind patrons of the social distancing precautions in place. The Monitors will be wearing a City of Pompano Beach uniform and Logo or Park Ranger Uniform.
  • Q: How long will it take to resume all lessons and programs at all our facilities including tennis and aquatics?

    A: Staff is working behind the scenes to have as little of a delay as possible from the time we get the “all clear” to when we resume all programs. When you get the “all clear” you will need to contact your facility for the program schedule and availability?
  • Q: Why is construction occurring at the Aquatic Center?

    A: The Aquatic Center had three construction/renovation projects scheduled over the next few months. In an effort to minimize the impact on patrons due to extended construction closures it was decided to move the projects forward to begin early and make use of the public facility closure. This way when we reopen it will be with little to no impact on facility function or capacity.
